What will we be learning this week?

English:

• Homophones and near homophones
• Continuing to practise reading and spelling Common Exception Words
• Learning about comparative and superlative adjectives adding 'er' and 'est'
• Studying information texts
• Big Write: writing an information text about an animal
• Reading comprehension

Maths:

• Daily times table practise sheets and activities on TTRockstars practising 2, 5 and 10 times tables
• Place value, identifying the number of 10s and 1s in 2-digit numbers
• Making 2-digit numbers
• Identifying 1 more and less and 10 more and less than 2-digit numbers
• Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s forwards and backwards

IPC:

• Learning about the 7 continents of the world
• Learning about Europe and understanding this is the continent we live in
• Learning about the United Kingdom and that we live in England

• Google meets will take place at the following times this week:

• TTRockstars Battle.  Our new battle starts on Monday.  Special congratulations to 'Sunshine Rocking chair' who lead Year 2 to victory against Miss Hall last week.

Week Beginning 1st June

Welcome back to the final half term of the school year.

Please find below information about what we will be learning about this week;

English:

• Spelling homophones and near homophones
• Adding the suffixes 'er' and 'est' to the end of adjectives
• Sharing the story 'Lost and Found' and using it as a example of an adventure story
• Planning and writing our own adventures story
• Completing a reading comprehension all about 'penguins'
• Revising all Year 2 High Frequency words to ensure we can read and spell them

Maths:

• Daily practise of 2, 5 and 10 times tables
• Counting in 2s, 5s and 10, forwards and backwards
• Recognising 2 digit numbers made from base 10 equipment
• Identifying 1 more, 1 less, 10 more and 10 less than a given number
• Completing 100 square jigsaw puzzles

IPC:

• Continuing with our topic 'We are what we eat'
• Looking at maps of the world.  Talking about different countries and oceans
• Learning where in the world different food comes from
• Learning about weather around the world and climate zones

Events this week:

• Google Meet Monday 1.30pm
• Information regarding further google meets for the week will be sent out via email.  
• TTRockstars Battle starts on Monday morning and finishes on Friday.  Can you all work together as a team to beat Miss Hall?

Week beginning 18th May

What will be learning during the final week before a half term break?

English:

• Adding '-er' for comparative verbs
• Writing newspaper reports about the Cornoavirus outbreak
• Learning about the different parts of the text in a newspaper article
• Spelling pattern: using an apostrophe to mark where a letter is missing (contractions)
• Sharing our daily story 'The Enchanted Wood'

Maths:

• Telling the time to 5 minute intervals
• Learning how many minutes are in 1 hour, how many are in half an hour, a quarter of an hour
• Solving problems relating to telling the time.  For example, 'If I get on a nus at 2 o'clock and my bus journey takes 20 minutes, what time will I get off the bus?'
• Time intervals

IPC:

• Learning all about our teeth
• How we can look after our teeth
• Playing the game 'race to lose a tooth'
• Writing a story to enter a competition to win £500 worth of reading books for school and an iPad for yourself

Special events this week:

• Our final TTRockstars Battle before half term will start on Monday morning.  Will you all be able to beat Miss Hall again?
• First google meet of the week is on Monday at 1pm.

Year 2 are the winners

Wow it was a tough TTRockstars Battle this week but Year 2 you did it once again.  Well done for working so hard to beat Miss Hall.  Our final battle before the half term break will start bright and early on Monday morning and finish on Friday.  Can you beat Miss Hall three times in a row?

We've had another great week of distance learning in Year 2.

Week beginning 11th May

What will we be learning this week?

English:

• Adding the suffixes '-ment', '-er' and '-ness' to words
• Adding the suffixes '-ful' and '-less' to words
• Sharing the story 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne and using this to plan our own story
• Big Write: Writing our own story based on 'Gorialla'
• Sharing our new story with THS Ted.  The story which THS has chosen to share with you all will be revealed on Monday

Maths:

• Starting our new unit of work all about 'Time'
• Making an analogue clock
• Setting and telling the time to 'o clock', 'half past', 'quarter past' and 'quarter to'
• TTRockstars: our new class Battle will start on Monday morning and finish on Friday.  Are Year 2 going to beat Miss Hall again this week?

IPC:

• Learning all about our taste buds
• Carrying out an investigation using our taste buds to taste different flavours
• Choosing an animal and researching how they taste their food

Year 2 are victorious

8th May

Year 2 certainly rose to the challenge in our first TTRockstars Battle and convincingly beat Miss Hall!  Well done to all those who took part.  Our next battle will start on Monday 11th May and finish on Friday 15th May.  Miss Hall is going to work harder this time.  I wonder if you will win again?
